Members have access to our Mt. Tam star parties.
The California State Parks has granted the SFAA a Special Use Permit allowing us to enjoy stargazing once a month on Mt. Tam at the Rock Spring Trailhead Parking Area from sunset until 2 AM. Club astronomers bring and use their own equipment for personal observations.Â
Access to the Mt. Tam star parties is one of the great benefits of SFAA membership. These parties offer peaceful viewing with no street lights, a great range of visibility, and the opportunity to connect with fellow astronomers. This venue is wonderful, because it is often above the fog while the city lights below are blanketed. On many nights, we can see the Milky Way in all its glory!
Our permit limits the number of cars that can drive to the Mt. Tam star parties; therefore, we employ a registration process. Members will receive an email prior to the party with instructions for registration.
Members should drive to the star party ONLY if they have received confirmation.
