Mission

Welcome to the San Francisco Amateur Astronomers! 

The purpose of the SFAA is to promote and popularize astronomy and related disciplines.

Our members are astronomy enthusiasts, from absolute beginners to advanced practicioners, connected by our love of astronomy. We enjoy various aspects of our hobby – visual observing, astrophotography, public outreach, scientific lectures, telescope making, and solar observing.

The SFAA was established in 1952 and continues a long tradition of sharing the wonders of the universe with the San Francisco Bay Area community. The SFAA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
